Let the Holidays Begin

In December of 2002 we took a family vacation to Sanibel.

The Christmas season in Florida is a bit different from

dashing through the snow and Jack Frost nipping at your nose.

We dash through the sand.

And the sand, more often than not, will scorch your feet,

BUT, if you are lucky,

you find a sandman on the beach.

Sanibel is where my sock knitting journey began. We were well on our way south when I realized my knitting bag did NOT make it into the car. Thankfully, there was a yarn store not far out of our way in Fort Myers.

I ran in quickly and asked the lady inside what I could buy from her that she has EVERYTHING I would need ..... yarn, needles, pattern, etc...  She handed me a bag with a ball of sock yarn (Fortissima Colori), double-pointed needles, and an Ann Norling sock pattern (#12) that she assured me was everything I needed.  Off I went without really looking in the bag.

I was a little confused when I opened the package and there were five needles. The learning curve on those had a few potholes, but by the end of vacation I had a sock and I have never looked back. Socks are DEFINITELY what I prefer knitting.

So, that brings us around to THIS Christmas and the want for some Christmas socks.

I was inspired by this guy.

In case you don't know who this is ..... it is Bumble from Rudolph the Red-nose Reindeer,
an animated program that I saw when I was really little.

How'd I do?

There will be a medium blue heel
and a black toe.

ALL Bumble's colors in one sock.

Will they be done for Christmas?

I hope so.

  2. I'm rather amused that a yarn store in Florida is responsible for your prolific sock knitting! The Bumble socks are looking great.
